How to say “Even if…” in Chinese
就算 ♬ and 即使 ♬ both mean “even if.” They introduce a condition that does not change the final result.
| Expression | Meaning | Feeling |
|---|---|---|
| 就算…也… | even if... still... | common in speech |
| 即使…也… | even if... still... | more formal |
Put the condition after 就算 or 即使, and put the unchanged result after 也.
| Structure | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 就算 / 即使 + condition,也 + result | Even if + condition, still + result |
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |

| 就算下雨,我也會去。 ♬ | Jiùsuàn xià yǔ, wǒ yě huì qù. | Even if it rains, I will still go. |
| 即使很難,我也想試試看。 ♬ | Jíshǐ hěn nán, wǒ yě xiǎng shì shì kàn. | Even if it is difficult, I still want to try. |
For everyday conversation, 就算…也… is usually enough. Use 即使…也… when you want a more formal tone.
