There is a variety of usages of "more" in Chinese.

I list them out one by one below

Usage of "more + adjective"
more；更 gèng + Adjective
e.g. xiǎo míng is smarter.
       小明更聰明。
       xiǎo míng gèng cōngmíng

more；更加 gèng jiā + Adjective
Literal meaning of 「更」indicates "more". 
Literal meaning of 「加」indicates "add".
Sometime, people would not use this word to modify for some kinds of natures.
Besides, the adjectives which have only one Chinese character are not available for this pattern because of the concern of phonology. e.g.「high 高 gāo」、「good 好 hǎo」

e.g. xiǎo míng is more friendly.
       小明更加友善。
       xiǎo míng gèngjiā yǒushàn

is more...；更加得 gèng jiā de + Adjective
Because adding「得 de」,「更加得」change as an adverb
It's available to modify for all kind of natures.
e.g. xiǎo míng is more angry.
       小明更加得憤怒。
       xiǎo míng gèngjiā de fènnù

more；較 jiào + Adjective
e.g. xiǎo míng is taller.
       小明較高。
       xiǎo míng jiào gāo

Difference between「更 gèng 」「較 jiào」
Both of them mean "more", but：
「更 gèng 」 is usually used to modify something which has visible difference than the other one.Generally ,it's used for in a competitive situation.
「較 jiào」 is usually used to modify something which has slight difference than the other one.
If  it's not in a competitive situation between 2 persons/stuff/things, people usually use「較 jiào」with tact .
e.g. 

e.g. higher；較高；jiào gāo

e.g. better；較好；jiào hǎo

e.g. Those who are taller ,please stand up.
       較高的人請站出來。

       jiào gāo de rén qǐng zhàn chūlái.
e.g. Everyone like the stuff which has better quality.
       大家都喜歡品質較好的東西。
       dà jiā dōu xǐh uān pǐn zhí jiào hǎo de dōngxī

more；比較 bǐ jiào + Adjective
Literal meaning of「比 bǐ  」is "to compare"
So,「比較 bǐ jiào」is stronger than 「較 jiào」and similar with「更 gèng 」
e.g. xiǎo míng is more polite.
       小明比較有禮貌。
       xiǎo míng bǐjiào yǒu lǐmào

more；更有 gèng yǒu + Noun
e.g. xiǎo huā is richer.
       小花更有錢。
       xiǎo huā gèng yǒu qián

more；更加有 gèng jiā yǒu + Noun
It's also can add「得 de」to turn「更加得gèng jiā de」as an adverb.
e.g. xiǎo huā is more loving.
       小花更加有愛心。
       xiǎo huā gèngjiā yǒu ài

more；較有 jiào yǒu + Noun
e.g. xiǎo huā are more elegant.
       小花較有氣質。
       xiǎo huā jiào yǒu qìzhí

＊「有氣質 yǒu qì zhí」indicates that "someone's class" (the quality of being stylish or fashionable).
    It's usually used to modify someone who elegance,charisma,refinement or posh.

more；比較有 bǐ jiào yǒu + Noun
e.g. xiǎo huā has more ideas.
       小花比較有想法。
       xiǎo huā bǐjiào yǒu xiǎngfǎ.

＊「有想法 yǒu xiǎngfǎ」is used to modify for：
     1. Someone has made some plans about future, life goal, career...etc.
     2. Someone can create many ideas.

To compare A with B

e.g. xiǎo míng is gentler than small flowers.

       小明比小花較溫柔。
       xiǎo míng bǐ xiǎo huā jiào wēnróu.

e.g. xiǎo míng is taller than xiǎo huā .

       小明比小花還要高。
       xiǎo míng bǐ xiǎo huā hái yào gāo

e.g. xiǎo míng is stronger than xiǎo huā .

       小明比小花更加強壯。
       xiǎo míng bǐ xiǎo huā gèngjiā qiáng zhuàng.

e.g. xiǎo míng is stronger than xiǎo huā .

       小明比小花還要更強壯。
       xiǎo míng bǐ xiǎo huā hái yào gèng qiáng zhuàng.

e.g. xiǎo míng is more gentle than xiǎo huā .

       小明比小花還要更加溫柔。
       xiǎo míng bǐ xiǎo huā hái yào gèngjiā wēnróu.

＊ You can omit「要 yào」of「還要 hái yào」.

When it's stronger for several times：
A + 比 bǐ + B + adjective + times.
e.g. The tree is three times taller than the wall.
       樹比牆高三倍。
       shù bǐ qiáng gāosān bèi

e.g. The sun is several times larger than the earth.
       太陽比地球大很多倍。
       tàiyáng bǐ dìqiú dà hěnduō bèi.

＊ You can change「比 bǐ」as「較 jiào」.
     It's same.

e.g. xiǎo míng is taller than xiǎo huā a bit.
       小明比小花高一點。
       xiǎo míng bǐ xiǎo huā gāo yīdiǎn

＊ You can change "times" to anther degree of adverb.
     It's same.

e.g. xiǎo míng is slightly taller than xiǎo huā .
       小明比小花稍微高一點。
       xiǎo míng bǐ xiǎo huā shāowéi gāo yīdiǎn

To compare；比較
e.g. Don't compare with others.
       不要跟別人比較。
       bùyào gēn biérén bǐjiào.
